Representative Malinowski Votes to Protect Reproductive Freedom

Press Release

Date: Sept. 24, 2021
Location: Washington, DC

Today, Representative Tom Malinowski voted to pass the Women's Health Protection Act to combat the nationwide assault on women's reproductive freedoms. The legislation would protect the right for all health care providers throughout the United States to provide abortion care regardless of unnecessary state bans and restrictions. Representative Malinowski is a cosponsor of the bill.

Passage of the Women's Health Protection Act comes amid numerous state attacks on the constitutional right to reproductive choice, including implementation of the Texas six-week abortion ban. The Texas law also establishes a bounty system that deputizes anyone in the United States to collect cash judgments of at least $10,000 -- and their legal fees -- from anyone who helps a woman exercise the constitutional rights guaranteed by the Roe vs. Wade Supreme Court decision. The Court has repeatedly upheld this landmark decision as precedent over the last half a century.

"No woman, regardless of their zip code, should have to make deeply personal health care decisions under political influence," said Representative Malinowski. "At a moment when Roe vs. Wade is under attack, I will do everything in my power to protect reproductive freedoms and to stop states from taking away a woman's right to choose."
